On a recent fall day, Cooking for the Crowd provided the meal for a community gathering at Restoration Farms. Restorative Farms is a nonprofit based in South Dallas, Texas, dedicated to building a community-driven urban farming “agrisystem” that tackles food insecurity and economic disinvestment. They operate programs like a seedling farm, a paid vocational training program called Future Urban Farmers, and a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to provide fresh, affordable produce. Beyond just growing food, they empower local residents with meaningful jobs, entrepreneurship opportunities, and tools for self-sufficiency. Through their work, they strive to repair systemic inequities by growing both community capacity and a sustainable local food economy. It was an honor to collaborate with them for an event they held.
Cooking for the Crowd was founded with the simple premise: Love, respect and dignity are foundational to human potential and the fact that small non-profit organizations inefficiently spend much of their time and resources feeding the people they serve, regardless of their actual mission. This essay shares Cooking for the Crowd's mission: to take cooking off Restoration Farm's plate so they can focus on their mission.
May it be so! Thanks for reading the latest installment of a storytelling series where we highlight the missions of the amazing groups we serve.

Bon appetit!
